1989 Subaru GL 4X4
This was a fun car but expensive. Every 2 years I had to replace a half drive shaft or cam seal leaking, It was about $500 a year expense. It would turn on a dime, go anywhere, moderate gas mileage and the small tires were inexpensive. I bought it used from a gentleman who owned the Glacier River Ranch in Coram, Montana.
This was my winter car and I kept it till 2005. That was 10 years and that was the first car I kept that long. When I relocated to Missouri I took the white Subaru and when I returned to Montana I still had the white Subaru. When I sold it it needed repairs. Cam seals were leaking and a half shaft was starting to go. Needed brakes and a windshield. The repairs were more than the car was worth. I had 2 almost brand new full sets of 4 tires. The studded snow tires had less than 3000 miles and the summer tires about 5000 miles. I gave the car to a co-worker in East Glacier with the condition that she buy the tires and wheels for $400. Times were tough and I allowed her to make payments of $100 a month.
